Foxconn Quietly Withdraws Chinese Engineers from Indian Plant Amid Supply Chain Tensions

Foxconn has abruptly pulled 300 Chinese engineers from its Yuzhan Technology factory in Tamil Nadu, India, marking the second such withdrawal in months. The MOVE disrupts production of high-precision iPhone components like metal enclosures and display modules, casting doubt on Apple's localization strategy in the region.

Taiwanese engineers are reportedly being deployed to replace the departing workforce. Industry sources suggest Beijing may be quietly resisting manufacturing migration, following unpublicized directives earlier this year to restrict technology transfers to India and Southeast Asia.

The Yuzhan facility, operational for only a few months, had yet to begin manufacturing parts for Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 line. The repeated engineer recalls signal growing challenges in Foxconn's efforts to diversify supply chains beyond China.
